Okay, so let's play a little catch-up.
First comes Portland.
(Then we'll get to the quinceanera, father's day, cake-popping, and the birthday in the sky - but all in good time.)
After a few weeks (or, in some cases, a few days) of the daily grind Alex and I get cabin fever and have to take off again. Go somewhere. Anywhere. Well, maybe not anywhere - but you know. With Alex's work and my school schedule we only have a couple of days off at a time, so this time around we chose somewhere near by, but far enough away to feel as though we had skipped town for the weekend.
Dun-dun-dun-duuuun: Portlaaaandia.
We load up the car. We leave bright and early. And the crisp, cool morning air and all the possibilities that a single day (and a half) can hold is ours.
Our time consisted mostly of these wonderful things:
Coffee.
Indian food.
The Ace Hotel.
Win Win.
Gelato.
Over-sized burritos.
Walking around in our boots.
Cause we're hip. It's whatever.
On the importance of getting away:
Save up money, spend it all on escape. Maybe it's because we feel called to travel, or because we simply enjoy it, but it really just seems worth it. All of it - The anticipation. The expectations. The drives - oh the drives alone! Eating out. Eating in. Walking, the discoveries along the way. The people. And the fact that the places you haven't been out number the places you have. Thrilling. It's just thrilling.
Portland was wonderful.
Full of all of the excitement and freshness we needed. And hipsters. Lots of them.
We walked, we ate, we slept in. And our hotel - what an experience. If you haven't seen Portlandia's clip of the Duece Hotel, watch it now. It was just like the the Ace Hotel. Alex kept asking where our complementary turn table was.
Classic.
